The Swedish company Fjällräven (translated as "arctic fox") is today a legendary manufacturer of backpacks, clothing and other outdoor equipment. One of the results of the brand's long-term development is the revamped range of advanced trekking backpacks, Kajka. This word is defined in the Swedish explanatory dictionary, among other things, as "aimlessly drifting on water." In short, the journey itself can be the destination…
The Kajka backpacks, including the hundred-liter one, may appear modest and minimalist (like the entire Scandinavian design), but don't be fooled by the first impression. These advanced trekking backpacks are literally packed with smart features.
The Kajka backpacks are equipped with an iconic wooden frame made of birch, which is the only one of its kind in the world. Thanks to this frame, the Kajka backpacks can carry extremely heavy loads with minimized strain on the carrier's back. The sustainability of the backpack in this regard is further supported by the fact that the wood used comes from traceable sources.
From the past, we know that some clothing and equipment can even harm health with their chemical treatments. This is not the case with Fjällräven Kajka backpacks, as they do not contain PFAS, which are perfluorinated and polyfluorinated substances widely used in the second half of the 20th century.
Fjällräven backpacks are truly sustainable regardless of their size. The polyamide used in the lining and reinforced parts, for example, is recycled. The manufacturer talks about "sustainability through longevity," which should be the standard with quality products regardless of the specific product. Compared to the previous generation, the Kajka backpacks are easier to repair.
The main material used is vinylon F, which lasts long, is easy to care for, and, for example, the even more famous Kånken wouldn't be what it is without it. The material is flexible and durable, and the manufacturer says that although it was created by man, it feels as if it comes directly from nature.
This hundred-liter Kajka backpack is equipped with a system that allows greater adjustment to the user's body and is called the Perfect Fit Adjustment System. Additional adjustment options are provided by the supportive hip belt and ergonomic shoulder straps.
The Fjällräven Kajka backpack, in its hundred-liter variant, has 11 practical pockets, including internal mesh pockets, the main internal compartment, open side pockets and side zippered pockets. Other accessories include a holder for an ice axe or trekking poles and side compression straps for attaching a sleeping mat, tarp, or another similarly sized accessory.
