Swedish company Fjällräven (translated as "Arctic Fox") is today a legendary manufacturer of backpacks, clothing, and other outdoor equipment. The result of the brand's years of development is the revamped urban/school backpack Kånken, which has earned legendary status over its long production history.
Backpacks by Fjällräven, including the iconic Kånken model, may appear modest and minimalist (like all Scandinavian design), but don't be deceived by first impressions. This advanced urban backpack is literally packed with smart features.
This classic and popular backpack offers many practical functions that make everyday life easier. For example, it is equipped with a zipper that allows the entire main compartment to be opened for easy access. The front zippered pocket can hold various small items. And you don't have to carry the backpack just as a backpack; with a pair of smaller handles on top, you can also carry it in your hand as a bag.
Other details include a tag for the owner's name and contact information inside or a removable bottom padding. There's also the reflective manufacturer logo, which ensures you'll be seen as a pedestrian in low light conditions. And we must emphasize the playful colors that are typical for the Fjällräven brand.
Swedish children have been carrying Kånken backpacks to school since 1978. These straight-backed backpacks gradually spread throughout the country and eventually gained popularity abroad. Their range of use also expanded – they are, for example, absolutely ideal for one-day outdoor trips.
Fjällräven backpacks, regardless of size, are truly sustainable. The manufacturer speaks of "sustainability through long-lasting durability," which should be the standard for quality products regardless of the specific item.
From the past, we know that some clothing and equipment can even harm health due to their chemical treatments. This is not a concern with the Fjällräven Kånken backpack as it does not contain PFAS, fluorinated or polyfluorinated substances widely used in the second half of the 20th century.
The main material used is Vinylon F, which lasts a long time, is easy to care for, and without which the famous Kånken and other backpacks (such as the Kajka trekking series) wouldn't be what they are. The material is flexible and durable, and the manufacturer says that although it is man-made, it feels as if it comes directly from nature.
