The Swedish company Fjällräven (translated as "polar fox") is now a legendary manufacturer of backpacks, clothing and other outdoor equipment. The result of years of brand development is the updated series of advanced Kajka trekking backpacks. This word is defined by the Swedish explanatory dictionary as "to move aimlessly on water." In short, the journey itself can be the destination…
The Kajka backpacks, including the 65-liter one, may appear modest and minimalist (after all, like all Scandinavian design), but don't be fooled by the first impression. These advanced trekking backpacks are literally packed with smart features.
The Kajka backpacks are equipped with an iconic wooden frame made of birch, which is unique in the world. Thanks to this frame, Kajka backpacks can carry even extremely heavy loads with maximally minimized strain on the wearer's back. The sustainability of the backpack in this regard is further emphasized by the fact that the wood used comes from traceable sources.
From the past, we know that some clothing and equipment can be harmful to health due to their chemical treatments. This is not a risk with Fjällräven Kajka backpacks, as they do not contain PFAS, which are perfluorinated and polyfluorinated substances widely used in the second half of the 20th century.
Fjällräven backpacks are truly sustainable, regardless of size. The polyamide used is recycled. The manufacturer refers to this as "sustainability through longevity." This should be a standard for quality products, irrespective of the specific item. Kajka backpacks, compared to the previous generation, are easier to repair.
The main material used is vinylon F, which is durable, easy to care for, and for example, the even more famous Kånken wouldn't be what it is without it. The material is flexible and durable, and the manufacturer says that although it was created by humans, it feels as though it comes directly from nature.
The Fjällräven Kajka backpack, in each of the available sizes, can be purchased with two variants of shoulder straps: S/M and M/L. The difference between the two is that the first has narrower straps, designed more for women and generally for shorter users (up to 170 cm). The S/M straps are also combined with a slightly shorter, adjustable hip belt. The shoulder straps for the M/L variant are somewhat wider for better weight distribution of the load. This variant also has a more comfortable hip belt and is designed for larger body frames.
The Fjällräven Kajka backpack in its 65-liter variant has 10 practical pockets, including internal mesh pockets, a main internal compartment, open side pockets and side pockets with zippers. Other accessories include a holder for an ice axe or trekking poles and side compression straps for attaching a sleeping mat, tarp or other similarly sized accessory.
