The fireROD XL is the biggest firestarter from Exotac. It is the bigger brother of popular fireROD firestarter, which also includes repair tape that can be used as an aid in starting a fire.
Bushcrafters know that in extreme conditions it is necessary to have all the equipment together – and mainly to know where you have it. That is why fireROD XL can be carried in a ferro-loop on a knife sheath. This allows you to start fire easily anywhere in the nature.
You can use the spine of your knife to strike the fireROD XL which means you have all your fire starting gear nicely together. Many bushcrafting knives do not round over the edges of the spine leaving them sharp for use as a striking tool.
The top cap hides compartment that can hold for example water purification tablets or tinder of your choice. It includes four quickLIGHT (dry-treated cotton) tinder tabs, that are extremely easy to light even with a small spark.
Another feature is heavy duty repair tape that can be used for patching holes, as an improvised bandage, or for creating bush-crafting tools. This tape can be used even as tinder because it is flammable.
The included ½" ferrocerium rod is waterproof so we can just wipe it over with some dry cloth. This rod is also replaceable and therefore we can simply unthread it from the body of the fireROD XL and thread in a replacement rod.
The fireROD XL body is CNC machined in the USA, from high-grade 6061 aluminum and then anodized for protection in one of four signature Exotac colors.
