There is another MOLLE on the exterior for equipment you need to have within reach even during transport.

Rifle case as well as shooting mat 

The interior is divided by padded divider along the entire length. The third leaf serves as an internal divider panel, making each an excellent two-rifle case. Divider panel can be detached and used as a comfortable shooting mat.
