The military backpack Crafter 55 belongs to the family of survival and military backpacks from the traditional Polish manufacturer Wisport. This backpack is ideal not only for professional use but also for camping and one- to three-day trips, hiking or cycling.
The main feature of this unique backpack is the spacious main compartment. Quick and easy access to its contents is ensured by two covers with a two-way zipper – one from the top and one at the front. The backpack is large enough to hold everything needed without having to rummage through the massive main space to find equipment. For example, when something is stored at the top, the top cover is ideal, when something is stored in the middle or bottom, the front cover is suitable.
The sturdy, two-way branded zipper covered by a flap allows the backpack to be opened only on one side. On the back of the main compartment, there is a pocket with an open top entry suitable for placing a hydration bladder, and in the middle above it, there is a hook to secure it. There is also an outlet for the drinking tube, which is double-sided and exits behind the top handle.
On the back of the compartment, there are two compression straps with quick-release buckles sewn on. The straps are adjustable and long enough to secure larger equipment or gear. On the inside of the front cover of the main compartment, there is a mesh pocket with a zipper. The same pocket is also on the underside of the top cover. A fabric pocket with a zipper is hung inside the main compartment under the top cover.
On the front, the backpack has the Crafter name embroidered. At the front top, there is a velcro panel for attaching an ID tag or a favorite patch. Additionally, this very practical backpack comes with a waterproof rain cover that protects the backpack and its contents from moisture in the rain or snow, hidden inside an easily accessible bottom compartment closed with velcro.
The backpack is equipped at the back top with a sturdy fabric handle for carrying by hand; this handle is also useful when putting on/taking off the backpack, for example when crossing a ford, or for dragging an injured person to safety. However, it is not the only handle, other handles make handling the backpack easier. One is located at the front bottom, two are at the bottom sides, and two are on the back sides, and they are even rubberized.
On both sides of the backpack, there are two compression straps with plastic quick-release buckles to adjust its volume, which also serve to secure additional equipment that does not fit into the backpack or needs to be kept at hand. This further increases the backpack's carrying capacity. Sturdy fabric straps with plastic quick-release buckles and an elastic cord with a quick brake located on the front of the backpack serve to attach a sleeping bag, mat, folded jacket, and similar items.
The backpack also features many "D" rings for attaching additional gear. On the top cover, there are external pockets with zippers – one large and one smaller sewn onto the large one. At the front and on both sides, MOLLE-compatible webbing is sewn on so that all gear and equipment with the corresponding webbing, such as various pouches, can be attached to the backpack. Thanks to this webbing, Wisport Raccoon pockets with a volume of 9 liters can be attached to the backpack, and by using three pockets (on both sides and the front), the capacity can jump from 55 liters over 80 liters. And that's really a lot of space.
Padded shoulder straps with mesh on the inside, the chest strap, and the hip belt are equipped with branded and high-quality plastic buckles and quick-release buckles. All straps are length-adjustable, and the height of the chest strap can also be adjusted.
The FAS (Fully Adjustable System) carrying system is the most versatile, fully adjustable, and most comfortable carrying and support system. This system consists of lamellas and strips made of a special durable aluminum alloy, integrated into the rigid back part of the backpack that adheres to the user's back.
The solid back part of the backpack forms a kind of barrier between the contents of the backpack and the user's back. This barrier not only prevents back pain from poorly packed cans but also gives the backpack its form and keeps its individual elements in the correct position. The straps can move freely up and down, allowing the backpack to be adapted to any user's height. This adjustment can be made with the unpacked backpack on the back, but it can also be adjusted during walking without having to take the backpack off.
An additional increase in adjustment range is enabled by the special construction of the hip belt. It is not permanently attached to the backpack and can be easily unfastened. The hip belt can be attached with a 180° rotation, and because it is asymmetric, this way the back length increases by about 8 cm. The backpack can also be used without this belt.
All components of the backpack that are in direct contact with the user's body are ergonomically shaped and covered with the AIR NET mesh/netting, which allows air circulation, thus ventilating the user's back and wicking away sweat and moisture, especially during longer trips.
Another important indicator is the good stability of the backpack. FAS ensures high stability of the backpack and prevents it from swaying during walking thanks to the specific attachment of straps, the hip belt, and the use of stabilization straps. This system can also balance an unevenly distributed load and dynamic loads, for example, during climbing or skiing. Moreover, the system allows transferring 70% to 80% of the load to the user's hips.
The system allows full customization and load transfer not only according to the user's height and individual requirements but also depending on the terrain and other conditions in which the user moves. It is very important that the system behaves differently when walking on flat ground, differently when walking uphill, and differently when walking downhill.
The simplified FAS Ergonomic has a smooth height adjustment of the suspension, has a hip belt shorter and smaller than in FAS Plus systems, sewn firmly. The harness and hip belt are covered with AIR NET ECO mesh. The shaped shoulder straps have no reinforcement at the top.
