The Swedish company Fjällräven (translated as "polar fox") is now a legendary manufacturer of backpacks, clothing and other outdoor equipment. The result of the brand's long-term development is also the Anorak No. 8 hooded jacket, which belongs to the Numbers clothing range.
This unique winter jacket is minimalist at first glance, and that’s how it should be – after all, the entire Scandinavian design is minimalist. It is an advanced anorak designed for the harshest conditions and for use in the forest and mountains throughout the year.
The practical hood of this jacket provides excellent protection against the elements. You can adjust it for different conditions thanks to the innovative brim construction. One setting maximally protects against the wind, while another ensures slightly better peripheral vision. When the hood is pulled down, it functions as a high collar that protects the wearer’s neck.
All materials used in the production of this windbreaker were chosen to be as practical as possible for the jacket's intended use. The main material is G-1000 Eco, utilizing organic cotton and recycled polyester. Reinforced G-1000 HeavyDuty material is used on the shoulders, sleeves and extended back of the jacket for really demanding conditions.
Even within a single day, the weather can change, and the jacket that was just right in the morning can suddenly be too warm by lunchtime. At that moment, simply unzip the zipper and buttons and turn the fastening to the side. Ventilation is also provided by long zippers located on the sides of the anorak.
This jacket also features other smart solutions. On the front, you can notice a large “kangaroo” pocket, which can be accessed from the top and sides. The drawcord at the back is used to adjust the width of the jacket at the waist, and another cord at the front allows for adjustment at the bottom hem of the jacket. This way, the jacket will not only fit well, but you can also easily set the ventilation/insulation from below.
We know from the past that some clothing and equipment can even harm health with their chemical treatments. This is not the case with the Fjällräven Anorak No. 8 jacket, as it does not contain PFAS, which are perfluorinated and polyfluorinated substances widely used in the second half of the 20th century.
Clothing and equipment from the Fjällräven brand is truly sustainable, regardless of the specific model. The polyester used in the patented G-1000 material is recycled, and it’s also gratifying that the cotton in the material mix of this jacket is organic. The manufacturer speaks of “sustainability through longevity.” Which should be the standard for high-quality products, regardless of the specific product.
Overall, the development of the Fjällräven Anorak No. 8 jacket considered minimizing its environmental impact. Most of the leather accessories on the jacket are processed from residual leather. Exposed parts of the anorak, which are most likely to wear out, can be easily replaced if necessary to prolong the life of the jacket as much as possible.
