The history of Wiley X began in 1987 when it launched its campaign to achieve world leadership in the research, development, and marketing of protective eyewear and gloves for the military and later, for civilian markets.
The history of the company Wiley X began in 1987, when it started its campaign to achieve world leadership in the research, development, and marketing of protective glasses and gloves for the military, any law enforcement units, and not least, for civilian markets.
It can be said that the Wiley X company was born on the battlefield. Right from its early days of inception, it developed a unique relationship with the US military and local elite special units. Wiley X products are indeed what many of them routinely carry into action.
Wiley X’s success quickly escalated after other interesting commercial markets emerged over the years, where durability was always necessary and highly sought after. Given its exceptional popularity among the military and law enforcement, Wiley X performed excellently even in these newly arising markets – which include mainly: hunting sports and shooting, all forms of motorcycle riding, fishing, cycling + all extreme sports and their variations around them.
Although Wiley X is officially headquartered in Livermore, Canada, since 2007, the brand Wiley X also has an office in Europe (city of Vemb in Denmark), from where it manages all its European / Eastern / African shipments.
Since then, Wiley X has set the bar and standard for safety, style, and utility in the premium performance class of its glasses, as it absolutely insists that all adult models meet the ANSI Z87.1 certification (safety standard for high-speed impacts and heavy objects).
As for the product line of protective glasses “Youth Force®”, it meets the sports standard ASTM F803. However, they are designed so that children can wear them comfortably all day. Moreover, it is no secret that many models offered by Wiley X also meet various military ballistic MIL-SPEC standards.
Over time, these and other ballistic technologies used in real live action are now available in many global civilian markets. Wiley X products (whether gloves or glasses) are an excellent choice even for so-called “weekend warriors” and generally for all people living an active lifestyle.
Kevlar and Nomex gloves from Wiley X are cut-resistant and used worldwide by militaries and security guards. They offer unprecedented hand protection while also allowing maximum hand dexterity.
Regarding glasses, they have the patented “Removable Facial Cavity™ Seals” technology, which can handle the worst scenarios nature and the elements throw at you – protecting customers from wind, dust, debris, and also side-light, while additionally enhancing light polarization.
Wiley X is the only manufacturer of premium sunglasses and protective glasses in the world whose entire line of adult products not only meets but exceeds OSHA recommendations and standards for occupational safety.
Under license, Wiley X also produces 100% ANSI-rated safety glasses for some of the world’s most iconic brands: almost everyone knows or at least has heard of legends like Harley Davidson, John Deere, Remington, and 5.11 Tactical.
The distribution of all Wiley X goods has also expanded to the harshest areas in the world where athletes regularly train. One way or another, it is precisely Wiley X that provides goods meeting various corporate safety standards in all crucial industries (tactics, optics, workplace safety, …).
All products from Wiley X undergo rigorous tests during their manufacture and existence to be positively marked according to the ANSI Z87.1 safety standard, further rated through standard EN.166, and some even meet the most stringent military impact certifications Ballistic VO.
It is also true, of course, that eye protection will only work if people want to wear these glasses. And that is precisely why Wiley X does not underestimate the stylish aspect and creates glasses suitable for practically every situation.
It has been 30 years since the current owners of Wiley X (Dan Freeman and Myles Freeman, Jr.) were just kids helping their father during summer with his relatively small but innovative protective glasses business. Little did they realize that in thirty years, they would be leading a global company highly respected by customers worldwide.
Their father (Myles Freeman Sr.) was a military veteran who started the operation of Wiley X to provide the best possible eye and hand protection for people who protect the freedom of the USA (and other countries). Although Wiley X began as an exclusive supplier and manufacturer of goods for the military, it eventually became an outdoor symbol.
Today’s owners, Dan and Myles Jr., are also grateful for the success due to a number of dedicated employees and excellent business partners. However, they both agree that the main and key reason for their success was that they remained faithful to their father’s legacy, vision, and philosophy: to produce the most protective and stylish glasses and gloves possible.
