The story of SureFire begins in 1969 when laser expert Dr. John Matthews from Cal Tech founded Newport Corporation, which manufactured lasers for industrial applications. He was a passionate shooter, and later resigned from his position to fully focus on a field closer to his heart in his newly founded company, Laser Products, which was primarily dedicated to the development and production of laser sights for firearms.

These were technically advanced but quite costly and commercially not very successful, so it was decided to expand the range to include flashlights mounted directly on the weapon. At that time, the legendary SureFire WeaponLight was born, influencing the entire military and police sphere. Later, other products were added, such as hand and head flashlights, helmet flashlights, baton flashlights, various military accessories, etc. The SureFire brand became so characteristic of Laser Products' products that the company was later renamed to SureFire LLC.
