The Streamlight Sidewinder Stalk tactical helmet light is a specific version of the popular Sidewinder, only this time with a flexible „gooseneck“, thanks to which you can adjust the flow of light exactly where you need it without having to turn your head or move the helmet.
Compared to handheld tactical flashlights, the Sidewinder Stalk has the advantage of keeping both hands free when using it. You can attach it to your helmet/helmet or other tactical gear in multiple ways. There is mounting in the NVG slot if you are not going to use it for night vision goggles, attachment to MOLLE binding, but also optional mounting to ARC mounts or Velcro. With the appropriate equipment, you can attach the flashlight to a Picatinny rail.
As a true tactical light, the Streamlight Sidewinder Stalk also offers a variety of lighting options including white, red, blue, green and infrared (IR) LEDs. All these modes with powerful LED technology are additionally available in low, medium and high intensity (up to 76 lumens) and strobe mode. And there is also an infrared IFF beacon (IFF from English identification: friend or foe) to distinguish fellow fighters from enemies.
The light can be powered by both a CR123A lithium battery and one AA alkaline/lithium pencil battery. This gives you a choice in an emergency. The battery life of the CR123A is set at 5.6 hours in the constantly-on white light mode at a maximum output of 76 lumens with a beam distance of 28 meters. The AA battery offers a luminous flux of 57 lumens with a 23m afterglow.
The Streamlight Sidewinder Stalk is of course very durable. It has been drop-tested from a height of three meters and is resistant to dust and water in accordance with the IP67 standard – it is sealed with an O-ring and can be submerged for up to 30 minutes in a depth of up to 1 meter (meaning in water).
Controlling the Sidewinder Stalk light is convenient and intuitive. It takes place with the help of a rubber switch and a retractable rotary switch with four positions, which is easy to operate even with tactical gloves on. There is also an IR Safe mode, which prevents accidental activation of the infrared mode and thus draining the battery. You always turn on the light in low mode and you can select the intensity afterwards.
