Markers are means of personal defense that typically resemble pepper (defensive) sprays. However, the active ingredient is not an irritant like in the case of these sprays. It is more of a dye, intended to mark the attacker for safe identification later.
An appropriate item for carrying in your purse or pocket is a defensive marker, in case you become a victim or witness to a violent crime. The defensive marker does not contain pepper, tear, or CS agents, making its use legal in most countries (in the Czech Republic, using a pepper spray in self-defense is also legal).
The advantage of markers offered at Rigadu is that they typically work on the principle of a ballistic stream of colored gel. This means that the container holding the effective color is pressurized, and when the button is pressed, the color moves precisely in the direction needed. This minimizes the risk of hitting bystanders or the defending victim along with the attacker. The ballistic stream simply does not create a colored mist.
The marking dye in the markers (usually food-grade) stains the skin, cannot be washed off, and lasts approximately 48 hours, helping the police identify a potential perpetrator. Therefore, the marker can serve as a universal defense, especially against human attackers in various environments. It can enhance your safety, especially in remote areas where there are typically fewer people, making it more challenging to call for help.
Most markers are equipped with a safety cap or lock, which prevents the spray from being activated accidentally in your pocket or purse. This ensures your valuable clothing or gear won't be damaged. Occasionally, the container may include a clip, making it easy to attach to a belt or pocket edge.
