What does it take to be successful at a shooting competition? What do you need to work on to improve your shooting skills and maybe even move up to the next level? Apart from the necessary dose of luck, it's all about careful preparation and discipline. Here are 10 tips on how to prepare for a shooting competition and what to keep in mind.

1. Choose the appropriate shooting equipment

First, choose the appropriate weapon and ammunition for the competition. Also consider the type of competition - tactical shooting will have different gun requirements than sport shooting (IPSC). Either way, you will need your gun to be reliable and accurate. It's also important to know all the controls well and to shoot the gun accurately, again depending on what you primarily need it for.

The choice of sight is also worth mentioning. In a tunnel shooting range up to 50 meters, for example, you will not use a scope with magnification. However, if you will be shooting primarily outdoors, we recommend a scope compatible with a magnification module or e.g. LPVO.

2. Improve your technique

To improve your technique and learn proper shooting skills, attend a shooting course regularly or work with a shooting instructor. Practice regularly to improve your accuracy, catch mistakes and take your shooting skills to the next level.

The competition gun must be accurate, reliable and properly loaded. Familiarize yourself perfectly with all its controls.

3. Work on your physical condition

Shooting can be physically demanding. Strengthen your muscles, improve your endurance, flexibility and speed. Eye exercises are also suitable. Also work on proper breathing and relaxation while shooting. Breath control is key to maintaining accuracy.

4. Research the competition rules

Familiarize yourself in detail with the rules of the competition you are about to participate in. Try to understand all aspects of it. Pay attention to time limits, scoring and other contest specifications. Don't try to count, but shoot as best you can. FAIR PLAY!

5. Have a mental preparation

Work on your mental resilience. Learn to manage stress and maintain concentration. You can try techniques such as meditation or visualisation to improve your mental strength.

6. Participate in training competitions

Get involved in smaller local competitions or training events. This will help you gain experience and prepare yourself better for a bigger competition.

7. Take care of your diet and sleep

Make sure you eat a balanced diet and get enough sleep. A healthy lifestyle affects your physical and mental fitness.

8. Get feedback

If possible, work with a coach who can give you constructive feedback and help you improve your skills.

9. Clothing and equipment

Have appropriate clothing and equipment that will allow you to shoot comfortably and safely. Clothing should be comfortable but not restrictive of movement.

10. Follow the professionals

Follow competitions in your shooting sector. Observe the techniques and procedures of successful shooters. The important thing is to be patient and practice regularly. Each shooter develops at an individual pace, so it is crucial to focus on your own progress and continually improve.
