US company Leatherman^{^®} Tool Group, Inc. was founded in 1983 in Portland, Oregon by Timothy S. Leatherman (graduated from mechanical engineering on Oregon State University) together with his friend Steve Berliner. In the beginning they focused on development of Pocket Survival multitool, but later on they started to focus on other tools icluding knives.
