Crye Precision is a company that started somewhat like a shot in the dark. It simply wasn't deeply thought out and its founders didn't even know if everything would work out and they wouldn't end up on the street.
Day by day, the market is getting stronger. New brands, new models, innovations are emerging. Manufacturers compete with each other, and huge multinational companies come up with different ways to get the biggest slice of the pie so they can afford a house on the Riviera. Since time immemorial, people have had the need to equip themselves with the best, to have quality equipment, clothing. I'll give you a riddle – who do you think will provide the best equipment? Is it the private sector? The army? And what about the private sector that supplies the army? That is exactly the company Crye Precision™.
It's 1997, and an art school graduate is looking around, wondering what he could actually do in life. He's a true American, so he loves the army, freedom, and everything around it. He directs his attention straight to the Department of Defense. He wants to help in some way, so he decides to design things for the army. He teams up with a friend who graduated a year earlier with a degree from a technical school, and they start with their first designs. These two young men are Caleb Crye and Gregg Thompson.
Initially, this duo tries to design a computer that would calculate ballistic trajectories, but they quickly abandon that idea. They focus their attention on safety features like helmets, ballistic vests, clothing, and more. Their first order is a ballistic helmet. That wouldn't be so much of a problem, except they had 8 weeks to produce the prototype. In the end, they didn't make just one type but two. Carbon fibers, great design, resistant to larger calibers and chemical-biological weapons. After a successful presentation, they knew what they wanted to focus on. They would concentrate on modernizing soldiers.
Their biggest opportunity came from the unfortunate events of September 11, 2001. The subsequent military invasion of Afghanistan brought higher demand for their models. At that time, Caleb and Gregg were still more or less designers without their own production. They focused on special units, which have much higher demands and maintained close cooperation with them, receiving immediate feedback on their products. During this period, the first complaints about product unavailability began. Since they were not manufacturers, they could not meet the increasingly growing demand. However, this would soon change.
In 2002, Crye Precision™ was founded, complete with their own production, warehouses, and development, still managed by Caleb and Gregg. Their greatest success came that same year. Crye introduced its unique MultiCam® camouflage pattern. A universal camouflage, it provides excellent blending with the environment. MultiCam further develops into several color types. This brings Crye Precision™ a contract with the government worth $50,000,000. They've made it!
Over the next few years, they expanded production and hired more and more employees. They are now headquartered in 8,000 square meters with over 250 employees and are still growing.
So from a small dream and a thought that was more of a trial, which didn't even need to succeed, a world-renowned company was born. Crye Precision™ products are characterized by their high quality, excellent craftsmanship, perfect materials, but also a high price. They manufacture everything from ballistic vests and plate carriers, military clothing, to accessories.
