ANV knives® is something we have been missing lately. There are many brands making knives, including Czech ones. However, it needed something new, it needed revitalization. Is ANV what we've been waiting for? Or will we still wait despondently?
We have it, yes we know. We already have several Czech companies that specialize in the production of knives. The most well-known of them is surely Mikov®, which has been with us for many years. That's why it needed a bit of life into an otherwise established standard.
And we have here the company ANV knives®. Someone might ask, what is ANV knives®? ANV is an acronym derived from the old Latin proverb Acta non verba, which translates to – actions, not words. The author is unfortunately unknown, but we have surely heard the proverb. In old films from the SPQR period, it is shouted by great generals, and even by world politicians, who unfortunately aren't that great anymore.
The ANV knives® company was born on August 18, 2018 (fantastic, all eights), although preparations for this date took a long time. We have to admit – it shows. The knives look very good, for which the designer from the aforementioned Mikov® is apparently responsible. If we look at the Mikov® Leaf and some knives from the new family of ANV knives®, we can see the resemblance at first glance. However, what will interest us is the construction, quality, workmanship, materials, and much more. So, let's get to it.
The production of the mentioned company currently focuses solely on folding knives and fixed blade knives. Structurally, these are more than interesting pieces. The grip looks reliable, the blade shapes are engaging and functional. Someone here likes double-edged, whether false or not.
What caught our attention, however, is the workmanship itself, which says about itself - "I am a step ahead." For example, a folding knife with a spear point shaped blade construction classified as a dagger? This is simply great.
Materials are another interesting chapter, which deserves a separate paragraph. Instead of the company starting to delve into various types of steel (S30, S35VN, Elmax, and others), they focused on just one. Only on a very well-known and reliable carbon steel known as D2. This, of course, pleases us, although even this steel has its fan club and hate club (is that what it's called?). For handles, they most commonly use G10, but there is also something much fancier for lovers of carbon fibers. And that makes us happy.
Last but not least, you will notice small features that distinguish ANV from other brands. For example, folding knives only open using a flipper. This method is quick and effective. There is a small luminescent point on the flipper that glows at night. Or the pocket clip, which is designed to allow deep-pocket-carry. Thanks to this, the knife is not noticeable at first glance. These and many other represent differences that perhaps every user will appreciate.
ANV knives might be a new fish in an otherwise vast ocean full of sharks with copyrights from Zero tolerance®, Spyderco, etc. However, thanks to tasteful and useful blades, they can carve their way forward toward the top 10 chart. Are you waiting for a summary?
Beautiful and useful blade shapes, details that are functional, good materials, and above all – ambition. These are the things they offer and what we can expect. But enough talk, let's take a look at their knives. Acta non verba, friends!
