With the launch of its patented Raptor ambidextrous charging handle, Radian Weapons helped bring AR-10 platform weapons into the 21st century.
All Radian Raptor charging handle models (Raptor, LT, SD, SL) have several common features. Each of the Radian Raptor handle models listed has an original, patented, double-sided fingerboard design. Each Raptor lever model features super-durable 7075 Mil-Spec Type 3 hard-anodized aluminium construction and oversized fingerboard pins for added strength.
The Radian Raptor charging handle is the original design with all of Radian's ground-breaking improvements. There are many copies, but only one Radian Raptor.
Designed in the 1950s, the original AR-15 charging handle, from which the charging handles of today's AR-10 rifles are based, has a small latch on the left side that must be pressed to disengage the charging handle from the top of the bolt housing. In contrast, on the Raptor charging handle, this latch is unlocked by both fingerboards. And it doesn't matter how you pull the handle, whether for one of the two fingerboards or for both at the same time. The latch always unlocks.
The design of the Radian Raptor SD handle for the AR-10 is ambidextrous, so it can be cocked from both sides. This is useful for left-handed shooters, but has a number of advantages for right-handed shooters as well. For AR-10s that have an upper bolt housing without a bolt stop button, the Raptor's ambidextrous handle design makes working with the bolt very easy and comfortable.
The fingerboards are slightly angled toward the front of the gun and are over half an inch wider than the original AR-10 fingerboards. In addition, they have an aggressively knurled front for a more secure finger grip. This makes the Raptor charging handle much easier to work with. Even with gloves or wet hands.
The right Radian Raptor SD handle fingerboard for the AR-10 is slightly longer. This is due to the shutter stop button, but also due to the fact that some optical devices or their mountings (mainly in the case of flip-up magnification modules) can make it difficult to access the classic charging handle of the AR-10 rifle, which must be operated from the left side. The Raptor charging handle solves this problem.
The Radian Raptor SD ambidextrous charging handle for the AR-10 is optimized for use with a shot suppressor. The lever is identical in fingerboard (fretboard) material and dimensions to the original Raptor handle model. The main difference can be seen at first glance on the inner part of the handle, the pull rod. When the pull rod itself is full of vents that are designed to direct gases down and forward, away from the shooter's face, when fired with a shot suppressor. This is an original idea that was so innovative that it earned its own utility patent from the US Patent Office in February 2019 (US 10, 203,174).
The Radian Raptor SD ambidextrous charging handle for AR-10 is compatible with the following AR-10 rifle models: Aero M5, STAG-10, Armalite AR10, Knights Armament SR25, Daniel Defense DD5 V3, V4, V5, DPMS Gen1 and many more.
