Canadian firm Nanuk makes highly durable protective cases which are not only functional, but also stylish. The manufacturer focuses on both safety and style. However, in the language of the Inuit, the word nanuk does not mean the same as in the Czech language (a popsicle). It literally means "polar bear". The polar bear is a symbol of durability and the ability to survive in harsh conditions. It is one of the most resilient predators on Earth and is praised for its strength and fearlessness.

The Nanuk brand belongs to the company Plasticase, which started manufacturing plastic cases back in 1984 under the name Resentel Ltd. A few years later, restructuring occurred and a clearer mission emerged – to design and produce the highest quality plastic cases in the world, manufactured using the injection molding method.

The company was inspired by the Swiss watchmaker Swatch, and thus initially oriented its marketing towards the concept of a "fashion accessory". Its cases were simply something trendy to own, at least among students and young adults.

Gradually, Nanuk began to respond to a different demand – not just from the public, but also (and primarily) from professional users, industry, the military, and police. They were able to supply nearly undestroyable and fully waterproof protective cases within a comprehensive range, sold under the slogan NANUK "The Evolution of Protection". At this point, the name Nanuk started being used more widely instead of the Plasticase brand.
