NALGENE®
Nalgene is a well-known and registered trademark of plastic products for various purposes. Behind the brand is the company Nalge Nunc International based in Rochester, New York, USA.
It all began here in 1949. Local chemist Emanuel Goldberg developed the first plastic pipette holder. Together with three employees, he founded the Nalge Company in a small building. In the following years, Goldberg and his growing team gradually developed the entire range of Nalgene - polyethylene laboratory equipment such as centrifuge bottles, filtration units, or various containers. No outdoor equipment. But precisely the small, practical, and durable plastic bottles started to be used by company scientists on trips. It wasn't until 1970 that this unofficial use of Nalgene bottles caught the attention of company president Marsh Hyman. His son and his scouts tried the bottles and were thrilled with them. And a new direction for product development and purpose was set.
Today, the outdoor products division of Nalge Nunc International designs, manufactures, and sells primarily durable plastic bottles of various colors, volumes, shapes, and purposes, with both wide and narrow mouths. The company also produces custom-printed bottles.
The Nalgene assortment also includes variously sized and shaped containers for food storage. Nalgene designs its products so that everyone finds the right one for themselves while respecting and being environmentally friendly.
In the late '90s, many tourists discovered the liter-sized Nalgene bottles with wide mouths made of translucent polycarbonate (originally typically gray, but now commonly in bright colors) with screw caps that remain attached to the bottle's mouth even when opened. Their sales gradually began to rise. Today, the Nalgene bottle is very well-known and recognized. The materials used prevent staining, do not absorb odors, and even allow filling with boiling water. Currently, Nalgene has more than 10 different types of bottles on the market, including the classic one.
The word Nalgene has almost become synonymous with a nearly indestructible outdoor bottle made of durable plastic.
