The SAS Smock work jacket from the Polish company Helikon-Tex is a military model that returns in an improved version. The manufacturer kept the classic elements, but expanded them, so this jacket can boast an ideal combination of vintage style and functionality.
The entire jacket is made of Duracanvas material, which can be waxed and is highly resistant to light rain and snow. The zippered jacket is positioned between two models in the Helikon-Tex range – the heavier and more advanced Anorak Pilgrim Jacket and the lighter Anorak Woodsman Jacket.
The Helikon-Tex SAS Smock jacket is versatile thanks to its simple cut and the possibility of adjustment in several places. For example, the lightweight hood is adjustable in two directions. This makes it easy to be adjusted to your head depending on the current weather conditions, or whether or not you want to wear a hat or cap underneath.
In addition to the hood, the entire jacket can also be customized thanks to two hems, one of which is located at the waist and the other at the bottom edge of the jacket. In this way, you can set the level of ventilation exactly according to your current needs. In addition to the hems, the ventilation holes located in the armpits are also used for this purpose. Add to that the lightweight construction and you get a jacket that is suitable for any weather from summer to winter.
Other benefits of the Helikon-Tex SAS Smock jacket include more practical pockets, the capacity of which, in addition to the well-thought-out cut, is another reason why this piece of clothing is suitable, for example, for bushcraft. The jacket has a total of eight pockets – four on the outside, fastened with Canadian buttons (a reference to classic British uniforms). There are two more under the top pockets, zipped on the side, and then there are two more on the arms.
In addition, each breast pocket has a special strap for attaching equipment. These loops protect individual equipment elements from loss. You can attach the gloves to the paracord loops on both sides of the jacket.
The inspiration for the Helikon-Tex SAS Smock jacket is obvious – it comes from military clothing worn by SAS special forces, for example, and others. Work military jackets have been popular since the Second World War, when they began to be valued for their comfortable fit, the number of pockets and the lightweight material that protected them in various weather conditions.
