ASTM D-4169

The ASTM D-4169 standardized test consists of different phases that evaluate the readiness of the package for logistics under normal conditions and with commonly present risks. It is therefore not a single test, but a set of tests, which include a drop test, a vibration test, a compression test and a horizontal pressure endurance test.

Testing within ASTM D-4169 also includes phase D-18 Rainfall, which is a standardized method to determine whether various rigid shipping cases and packaging are capable of protecting their contents during transport from the effects of rain and moisture. If the case meets this standardization, it means that the items enclosed in the case are protected from moisture.

The vibration test is again a standardized method that determines that packaging, including rigid ones, can handle vibrations during transport. The drop test is performed in a controlled environment and evaluates the packaging's ability to withstand different levels of impact during the transport and handling process.

All the above-mentioned tests should be met, especially for cases and luggage that are used to transport valuables. And that includes specialized cases for weapons and their accessories. The ASTM-4169 tests simulate a total of 18 distribution cycles that may occur in a real-world logistics operation and assess the impact of risks that may occur in each cycle.
