Looking back at the history of Under Armour, we find that the first major breakthrough for the brand occurred in 1999, when Warner Brothers contacted the company to see if they could be involved in outfitting two upcoming films – "Winners and Losers" and "The Replacements." The following year, the company began outfitting the XFL football league, gaining even more attention when the league began airing on a national broadcasting station. In 2003, the first TV commercial was released with a motto that the company still holds on to: "Protect this house." In 2007, Under Armour opened its first retail store with a full assortment at Annapolis Mall in Maryland.
Today, the company has several specialty stores not only in the USA but also in Canada, China, and another 39 countries worldwide. In 2013, the first Brand House was opened in Baltimore, where Under Armour is currently headquartered. The first store on a continent other than North America was opened in Edinburgh. However, the business skills alone are not the only thing that put Under Armour among the top in its field. It is mainly the technologies the company offers in its products. One of them is ColdGear Infrared.
This is an improved version of the well-known ColdGear technology. Its task is to wick sweat away from the body, while also maintaining body temperature and clothing flexibility. This technology is primarily used for clothing suitable for colder environments. ColdGear Infrared technology uses a thermally conductive layer inside the garment. This means that the classic ColdGear is multiplied with Infrared technology to be more efficient. Another advantage is that Infrared not only retains heat but also tries to distribute it evenly. Infrared is a relatively new technology that is still being developed, but clothes with this technology are already available.
