US desert 3 color camouflage pattern

Soon after the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq (as is well known, in the year 1990), the US DOD (U.S. Department of Defense = essentially our Ministry of Defense) was faced with a clear threat that it didn't yet have a clear answer to at that time: namely, to equip a large volume of its combat units in camouflage uniforms suitable for long-term desert warfare. This was a time when most military personnel/people deployed in operations "Desert Shield" and "Desert Storm" were still standardly wearing the usual Woodland BDU or, in better cases, six-color desert camouflage DBDU.

Fortunately, it was already clear to the US military that this wouldn't suffice for long, so it quickly deployed from development a new camouflage pattern suitable for deserts, but designed to be more fitting for areas with much less vegetation and predominantly sandy. This also applies to areas like North Africa or Western Asia. This final camouflage pattern was seen in its first prototypes about 1989, but the full official introduction of this three-color camouflage pattern occurred two years later, with a few samples appearing during the "Desert Storm" operation.

The type consists of beige and earthy brown horizontal waves on a sandy background. This USA tricolor (which also received the nickname "coffee stain" from units) has been copied and adopted many times by other nations throughout Western Asia, and even other countries in the world, where it is considered relevant and suitable attire for troops. The first USA tricolor of this desert camouflage pattern was printed on 50/50% NYCO twill fabric. Later, in a slightly larger pattern, also on 100% ripstop, and finally (around the years 1995-1996) in an improved version (ripstop 50/50% NYCO fabric).
