Sleipner Steel

Sleipner is a highly alloyed steel with a very wide range of properties. It is also a very good steel for all types of surface treatments. This combination means that Sleipner is an exceptionally versatile traditional tool steel for medium-series tool production in the area of cold work. In the countries of East and Southeast Asia served by the ASSAB company, Uddeholm Sleipner steel is sold as Assab 88.

One of the most remarkable properties that this steel possesses is wear resistance, which reaches far greater values than similar steels. However, that is not all, as we must also consider the excellent properties of chipping resistance and high strength. Furthermore, this steel offers us excellent dimensional stability during heat treatment, good machinability, and grindability. It is certainly worth mentioning that the steel also has good properties for subsequent surface treatments and good hardenability.

Sleipner steel also offers a reduced risk of cracking during wire cutting. It is not surprising, therefore, that this steel is widely used in many industries. Its versatile properties essentially predispose it to this.
