These ballistic inserts from the Czech brand Combat Systems are designed for plate carriers and ballistic vests, in this case for the Templar's Gear KSAV Koursores carrier, and fall into the category of so-called soft ballistics. Thanks to this, they can stop pistol caliber bullets.
The advantage of so-called soft armor inserts is their high flexibility – these ballistic inserts adapt to the shape of the user's body. They protect against pistol caliber bullets (such as 9mm Luger, .44 Mag, or .357 Sig) and also against shrapnel.
The goal of Combat Systems ballistic inserts is to minimize the secondary effect (trauma effect or deflection of the vest at the point of impact) on the user's body. However, it is primarily important that ballistic inserts stop bullets from handguns, which have high energy on impact.
Combat Systems company uses the best materials available on the market when producing ballistic inserts, such as laminates from American Honeywell, especially those based on UHMWPE from Spectra fiber. Combat Systems inserts do not need to contain any additional materials to reduce trauma because the ballistic material itself reduces trauma excellently.
Combat Systems ballistic inserts go even further, beyond the American standard NIJ 0101.04, and thus are capable of stopping even Tokarev or Makarov rounds. These are easily available but also dangerous. It is also worth mentioning that the ballistic insert itself is enclosed in a waterproof cover and is sealed using ultrasonic technology.
The effectiveness of Combat Systems ballistic inserts has, of course, been tested with various types of bullets at various speeds. The following information about specific testing parameters comes from their website:
