These ballistic inserts from Czech brand Combat Systems of dimensions 10"×12" (25×30 cm) are designed for category so called soft armor. This means they are for example capable of stopping handgun ammunition.
The advantage of soft armor inserts is their flexibility – these ballistic inserts adapt to the shape of the body. At the same time they are capable of stopping handgun ammo such as 9 mm Luger, 44 Mag or 357 Sig and shrapnel V50.
Combat Systems soft armor combine two basic elements of protection. However, it is primarily important that ballistic inserts stop missiles from handguns that have high energy on impact.
Combat Systems use only the best materials available for the production of their ballistic inserts. For example 100% UHMWPE Honeywell Spectra Shield. Combat Systems inserts do not need to contain any additional trauma-reducing materials because the ballistic material itself is excellent at reducing trauma.
Combat Systems ballistic inserts meets US Level III.A NIJ 0101.04 which makes them capable of stopping Tokarev or Makarov type handgun ammo. These are easily available, but at the same time dangerous. It is worth noting that the ballistic insert itself is closed in a waterproof packaging with using ultrasonic technology.
Of course, Combat Systems tested the efficiency of its ballistic inserts, with different types of missiles at different speeds. The following informations about specific testing parameters comes from their website:
