The history of Atsko's Sno-Seal waterproofing product dates back to 1933. It is a product made from genuine beeswax, developed to protect leather from rain, sun, snow, and salt. It can, for example, exceptionally repel deicing salt, thus preventing stains on footwear. This time, in the form of a practical CO2-powered spray.
After waterproofing shoes with Sno-Seal, water stops penetrating the leather because the product, thanks to its unique composition, fills the leather pores and dries into a solid wax form. Additionally, Sno-Seal protects the leather from drying out – this keeps your footwear and other leather gear flexible and sturdy even in the driest of climates.
Sno-Seal beeswax, thanks to its original composition, does not penetrate all layers of the leather. Unlike regular creams, oils and animal fat products, which seep through all layers of leather and gradually clog all its pores. This way, they block the natural ducts in the material's structure, which serve as insulation and also absorb sweat.
Animal fats and oils disturb and decompose the leather. In the tannery, fats are removed from the leather to keep it in an unspoiled state for as long as possible. So why put fats back into the leather? Unlike animal fats, Sno-Seal does not spoil and thus does not disturb or decompose the leather.
Thanks to Sno-Seal, you can feel more comfortable even in shoes equipped with Gore-Tex membranes, etc. This waterproofing does not affect the functioning of membranes. Although the membrane protects your feet from external moisture, when the shoe is soaked with water, the leather cannot breathe and thus becomes impermeable. Soaked leather then conducts heat away from the feet, leading to a feeling of dampness and cold.
Sno-Seal will not only keep you warm and dry but also help you resist fatigue. A regular leather boot can soak up to half a kilogram of water. This means that when walking a distance of 1 km, you have to lift an additional average of almost seven hundred kilograms. Sno-Seal keeps your footwear not only dry and warm but also light.
Besides footwear, Sno-Seal can also be used on other smooth leather products. Just one application by hand using a cloth or a plastic sponge is enough. The waterproofing is recommended for shoes with Gore-Tex, Sympatex membranes, etc.
Although a few dozen milliliters of waterproofing product per shoe treatment may seem like a relatively large amount, the waterproofing actually lasts a long time. According to reviews from long-term users, it is sufficient to waterproof footwear with Sno-Seal only 3 to 4 times a year.
