The Ruger SFAR self-loading rifle is a small-frame weapon that is almost the same size as a classic modern 5.56 caliber sporting rifle. Thanks to the 7.62 NATO/.308 Win caliber, it combines the ballistic advantages of the .308 Winchester with the advantages of the traditional MSR (modular sniper rifle).
The slide extension and barrel are CNC machined for high precision, plus solid superalloy steel that outperforms traditional C158 bolts. The stock is further strengthened to support larger short-action cartridges. The bolt carrier is made of 8620 steel and the titanium firing pin is coated with a layer of DLC (diamond-like carbon), which extends its life.
The 4140 chrome molybdenum steel barrel is cold hammer forged with ultra-precision 5R rifling. Above-average accuracy, long service life and easy cleaning are ensured by the black nitride surface of the heavy profiled barrel. It is well balanced and also looks good.
The Ruger SFAR self-loading rifle features a Boomer dual-port muzzle brake with large vertical surfaces to redirect gas and reduce felt recoil. The 5/8"-24 muzzle thread is also compatible with other types of muzzle brakes as well as flash and noise suppressors.
The 15" aluminum handguard is free-floating and features Magpul M-LOK compatible accessory mounting holes at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. A full-length top Picatinny rail is also available, as well as cleats on quick-release (QD) strap loops, which allow convenient attachment of a two-point strap.
The rifle-length gas system features a 0.750" four-position rotary adjustable gas block for increased compatibility with a wide variety of ammunition available on the market today. Also included is an integrated 3/16" ball wrench for easy regulator adjustment.
The SFAR rifle is also equipped with a Ruger Elite 452 trigger with a smooth, two-stage trigger pull. A stiff hammer spring and lightweight hammer ensure fast lock-up times and consistent ignition.
The handguard of the Ruger SFAR self-loading rifle is made of anodized 7075-T6 aluminum forging and is completed with a brass deflector or a classic full-length Picatinny mounting rail for attaching optional accessories. The magazine well on the pistol grip is generously designed to easily accommodate magazines.
There are vents on the forend, barrel extension and bolt carrier for efficient discharge of after-shot gases away from the user. The rifle also features a Magpul MOE SL stock and Magpul MOE grip to give the shooter the positive control and ergonomics they need. The end of the bolt housing is also equipped with an extra loop for attaching a quick-release strap and fills the recessed space on the back of the bolt housing.
The SFAR rifle is compatible with Mil-Spec equipment (that is, military-grade equipment) for sniper rifles (MSRs), such as trigger assemblies, receiver ends, charging handles, pistol grips and adjustable stocks. Included in the package is one 20-round Magpul PMAG magazine; the rifle is also compatible with .308 Win/7.62 NATO SR25/AR-10 cartridges.
