The modular ComTac VIII 4-pin NATO headset from 3M Peltor features not only an improved design compared to previous generations but also advanced system integration while maintaining situational awareness of ambient sounds even when you have the headphones on.
This headset can be an undeniable tactical advantage for users thanks to a function called "talk-through," which filters external sounds and only allows safe ones through. On the contrary, sounds that could damage the user's hearing do not pass through the redesigned ear cushions of the headset.
The ComTac VIII headset uses a special digital sound circuit to filter sounds, which monitors noise levels above a certain threshold and compresses them to ensure their levels are safe for the user's hearing. Conversely, faint sounds are amplified so they are audible. For these purposes, the device utilizes the latest 3M Peltor microphones for environmental capture.
The ComTac VIII headset features Mission Audio Profiles (MAP). These profiles allow users to not only amplify and attenuate external sound levels but also model their frequency to enhance listening quality. The MAP sound profiles were designed with specific types of tactical missions and operations in mind.
Naturally, this headset also features a hearing protection mode, which can completely block external sounds. This is especially useful in situations where you find yourself in an environment with excessive noise levels that could potentially cause irreversible hearing damage. For these purposes, the ComTac VIII headset can be combined with earplugs to further reduce noise by several decibels.
This device is a complete headset, meaning it includes not only headphones but also a microphone for communication with the environment. The advanced soundstage of the headphones aids in speech intelligibility in noisy environments. Automatic setting changes in this regard are enabled by a feature called Soundscape. Critical communication can still operate in the event of electronic failure or battery depletion.
