Lansky Spyder is a compact multi-use pocket sharpener. Ceramic rod is ideal for fast sharpening of knives. This type is ideal for the distinctive serrations on Spyderco knives. The small edges are for narrow serrations and the wider edges match wider serrations. The flat surface is for sharpening regular blades, the groove is for fish hooks and other pointed objects. Features keychain and non-slip finger rest.
Plain Edge
Step 1 - place the sharpener between thumb and forefinger or middle finger
Step 2 - place the blade´s edge against the flat side and with even pressure gently sharpen(much like attempting to slice a thin layer off the side); maintain a consistent angle
Step 3 - stroke 3 - 5 times and repeat on the reverse side
Step 4 - repeat the process until the blade is sharp
Serrations
Step 1 - place the sharpener between thumb and forefinger or middle finger
Step 2 - bring the edge(corner) of the sharpener to the serration; hold the knife firmly with the edge facing away from you
Step 3 - you sharpen going against the blade´s edge, for larger serrations add rolling movement and evenly move edge of the sharpener from one side of the groove to other; maintain a consistent angle and with even pressure gently push; repeat process for each serration until you get desired sharpness; the reverse side of the serrated edge is usually plain so we just sweep it with flat side of the rod – few strokes, but usually single strong will remove any burrs.
Same use for both righ and left- handers.
Note:
Read the instructions before use. Do not rush and pay attention to
what you do.
Knife sharpening is an inherently dangerous activity - if you use this
sharpener properly you can not be hurt but a careless handling or pointed objects can hurt you.
Cleaning instructions: Over the time the rod becomes dark with metal particles, making it less efficient. When that happens use Lansky Eraser Block, or kitchen cleanser to clean it.
Caution: The ceramic rod will never wear out, it is solid and durable, but because it is ceramic, it can brake when fall on the hard ground. Handle with care.
