Nomex

Nomex is a meta-aramid fiber with strong resistance to high temperatures. The production of Nomex fibers was developed in the early 1960s and introduced to the market in 1967 by the American company DuPont.

Nomex

Nomex® is a basic material and undergoes a series of processes to become a final product. To ensure high quality throughout the processing chain up to the production of protective clothing or gloves, a Quality Program - DuPont Quality Programme - was established. It brings together selected manufacturers from the processing chain who have demonstrated they meet strict technical and quality requirements and tests. Only these partners have the license to use the quality label on their products. This allows end users to identify guaranteed quality clothing that meets not only European standards but has also passed the strict tests of the Quality Program.

Protective clothing made from NOMEX® fibers (firefighter suits, station uniforms, or gloves) are used by both professional and volunteer firefighters worldwide, as well as American astronauts, Formula 1 pilots, and also the police and military. Workers in industry, petrochemistry, and energy particularly appreciate the comfort of wearing protective clothing made from Nomex® Comfort fiber, their permanent antistatic properties, resistance to aggressive chemicals, as well as the durability and consistently good appearance of these garments.

The protective properties of NOMEX® fiber are stable and do not change with repeated washing. The non-flammability is an inherent property, not achieved through chemical treatment.

Nomex

For more than thirty years, DuPont has held a leading position in developing effective protective garments against heat and flames. A large part of the work on developing NOMEX® fibers takes place at the Spanish manufacturing facility in Asturias.

Testing the effectiveness of protective garments is conducted by DuPont at its European research and development center. The Thermo-Man® mannequin, developed in collaboration with the U.S. Air Force, is used for these tests. There are 122 temperature sensors distributed on the mannequin's surface. The mannequin is connected to a powerful computer, which immediately evaluates the data and allows predicting the location and extent of 2nd and 3rd degree burns under conditions close to real-life. Tests on the Thermo-Man® mannequin have become an unofficial but globally recognized standard.

The quality of these garments has been verified and appreciated by members of the “NOMEX® Survivors Club”, who survived exposure to extreme conditions thanks to protective clothing made from Nomex material. The club was founded in Prague in September 1996. It has eight members in the Czech Republic, two members in Slovakia, four in Poland, and four in Germany.
