Vibram® is an Italian company specializing in the development and production of high-performance rubber outsoles for hiking, climbing, work, and lifestyle footwear. It was founded in 1937 by Vitale Bramani, who invented the first rubber sole following a tragic mountaineering accident in the Alps. The name Vibram comes from the first letters of his name.
After the accident caused by inadequate footwear, Bramani aimed to develop a sole that would ensure safety and performance in demanding mountain conditions. Adapting Charles Goodyear’s vulcanization process, he created the first rubber outsole suitable for both climbing and approach. Since 1954, when mass production began, Vibram has become a symbol of innovation and reliability.
Vibram® is a global leader in outsole technology, trusted by top brands worldwide. Its soles are found on mountaineering boots, military footwear, sports shoes, and even fashion sneakers. They have been tested on the world’s highest peaks and in the harshest conditions.
In 2015, Vibram® launched the Sole Factor project — a mobile customization lab where users can upgrade their shoes with Vibram outsoles. Available at select sports events, this service allows even non-Vibram shoes to be resoled with premium rubber options tailored to user needs.
