Thinsulate® is a thermal and acoustic insulation developed by the well-known technology company 3M. It is a fleece made of synthetic microfibers that are 25 times thinner than a hair. The principle of insulation lies in the fact that the fibers create a vast surface on which air molecules adhere, and it is precisely this trapped air that provides thermal insulating properties. Unlike insulation foams such as polystyrene foam, where air is held in small cells of foamed plastic, the fleece allows air circulation and does not retain moisture. The 3M Thinsulate® material has thermal insulating properties comparable to the highest quality down, but unlike down, it does not absorb moisture. Thanks to its good properties, Thinsulate® fleece is used as thermal insulation in jackets, shoes, sleeping bags, and other products where we need to prevent heat loss. It is also worth mentioning its good acoustic insulating properties, which is why it has started to be used in the automotive industry to reduce the transmission of noise from the engine to the interior of the vehicle.
